38th National Games in Uttarakhand: 141 teams formed for medical facilities, 150 doctors deployed

To provide medical facilities for players and guests during the 38th National Games, 141 teams have been formed. These teams will remain on alert mode from January 28 to February 14. Emergency services, including ambulances and air ambulances, will be promptly available as needed.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that the National Games are a moment of pride for the state. Providing the highest level of healthcare facilities to players and guests is a top priority. Every small and big requirement has been taken into account.
The Health Department has made extensive preparations for the National Games. According to Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar, state-level nodal officers, deputy nodal officers, and assistant nodal officers have been appointed. At the district level, district nodal officers, Chief Medical Officers (CMOs), and additional CMOs have been designated as assistant nodal officers. District-level nodal officers have also been appointed for ambulance services.
A 10-bed hospital will operate at the Dhanwantari Block of Maharana Pratap Stadium in Raipur, Dehradun, while a 2-bed hospital will function at IGICS Stadium, Gaula Par, Haldwani. Adequate medicines and medical equipment are being procured for players.
Dr. Tarun Tamta, Chief Superintendent of the District Hospital in Nainital, has been appointed as the nodal officer for the Kumaon division. Dr. Tamta has specialized in sports medicine. Similarly, Dr. K.S. Negi has been designated as the nodal officer for the Garhwal division. Nodal officers have been instructed to conduct site inspections.
Primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare services will have designated nodal and assistant nodal officers. Secondary healthcare, such as district hospitals, will have specialists in neurology, cardiology, head injuries, and spine injuries on call 24/7 during the games.
Every district hospital will have three ambulances equipped with essential medicines available on call 24/7. Medical teams will be stationed near the accommodation sites of participating athletes, and hospitals in each district have been enlisted to provide support.
For every event and shift, a team has been formed, comprising:
- 1 doctor
- 2 nursing staff
- 2 physiotherapists (male and female)
- 1 ward boy
Additionally, a standby team has been assigned for emergencies.
Each sports venue will have one ALS ambulance and one BLS ambulance with a medical team, while one BLS ambulance will remain on standby.
A total of 150 doctors, 300 nursing staff, 25 physiotherapists, 30 pharmacists, and 50 ward boys have been deployed for the National Games.
A total of 115 ambulances, including department and 108 service ambulances, will remain operational during the games.
The trauma department of AIIMS Rishikesh will reserve five beds from January 28 to February 14, 2025. Air ambulance services will also be available for airlifting in emergencies.
Fifty medical officers have received capacity-building training at AIIMS Rishikesh. These officers represent all districts of the state.
