The district administration team, in a major crackdown, sealed an illegally operated gas warehouse in the Raipur area early Friday morning. The warehouse had been operating for years despite the lease having expired.
District Magistrate (DM) Savin Bansal took immediate cognizance of the matter and ordered an investigation. Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kumkum Joshi was directed to coordinate with the concerned departments for necessary action, following which the district administration and police team executed the operation.
The issue came to light during the DM’s public hearing program when a 95-year-old woman from Garhi Cantt complained about illegal operations and encroachment on her land by the gas warehouse. The DM promptly ordered the cancellation of the gas warehouse’s license and instructed the Revenue Department to conduct a detailed investigation of all aspects mentioned in the complaint.
The complainant revealed that her 12,000 sq. ft. land in Ranjhawala, Raipur, had been encroached upon by land mafias, who were operating the gas agency illegally. The land had been leased in 1988 for 10 years to run the gas warehouse, but after the lease expired, rent payments ceased in 2000. Additionally, records were allegedly tampered with to transfer the land ownership.
The DM directed the immediate cancellation of the warehouse’s license and questioned the responsible departments for their inaction over such a prolonged period.
Following the DM’s orders, the Supply Department instructed the State-Level LPG Coordinator, Regional Manager of Bharat Petroleum LPG (Landhora, Roorkee), and the Explosives Controller (Indiranagar) to take appropriate action.
