Dehradun, March 10, 2025
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a meeting at the Secretariat on Monday to review preparations for the Char Dham Yatra. During the meeting, he directed the concerned officials to complete all necessary arrangements before the commencement of the pilgrimage, ensuring proper facilities for roads, drinking water, electricity, and healthcare services.
The Chief Minister emphasized the need for efficient traffic management and appropriate parking facilities along the pilgrimage routes. He instructed officials to strengthen the registration system for pilgrims and launch the Green Char Dham Yatra campaign.
Dhami stated that Char Dham Yatra is a key pilgrimage that attracts national and international attention. He emphasized that every effort should be made to make the journey smooth and safe. He also instructed officials to plan ahead while keeping last year’s challenges in mind.
To ensure the well-being of pilgrims, the Chief Minister directed authorities to arrange health screening tests along the pilgrimage routes.
Additionally, he instructed the Animal Husbandry Department to conduct timely health check-ups for horses and mules used in the pilgrimage. Sufficient hot water and fodder must also be made available for them. Before the yatra begins, narrow roads should be widened, and ongoing road construction work should be completed to prevent unnecessary delays for pilgrims. If traffic management requires stopping pilgrims at certain points, all essential amenities must be provided.
Dhami also instructed vigilance authorities to monitor and prevent black marketing of helicopter tickets, ensuring strict action against offenders.
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of cleanliness along the pilgrimage routes, directing officials to ensure adequate toilet facilities, including pink toilets. A special cleanliness campaign should also be conducted with the participation of public representatives and officials.
He further directed officials to promote single-use plastic bans on a large scale as part of the Green Char Dham Yatra initiative.
To improve accessibility, alternative routes should be identified and maintained. Mobile connectivity and drone surveillance must be ensured in sensitive areas.
A helpline number should be issued for Char Dham Yatra, and real-time weather updates should be strengthened. During the meeting, the CM also reviewed preparations with district officials from the pilgrimage routes.
The Chief Minister suggested preparing a master plan for winter pilgrimage sites and developing the surrounding areas. The Gangotri and Yamunotri master plans should also be prioritized. He further directed authorities to start preparing for the Nanda Raj Jat Yatra in 2026 and the Kumbh Mela in 2027.
Dhami urged IAS, IPS, and PCS officers to adopt the tehsil, police station, block, or region where they began their careers and contribute to its development. He encouraged them to stay overnight in these areas, resolve public grievances, and inspect government schools, hospitals, and other institutions.
The meeting was attended by Cabinet Minister Satpal Maharaj, Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, Minister of State Vishwas Dabar, Additional Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, Principal Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu, R. Meenakshi Sundaram, secretaries, senior police officials, department heads, and district magistrates from Char Dham pilgrimage regions (virtually).
