National Games in Uttarakhand: AIIMS Rishikesh is training doctors for emergency medical services
Training is being given to more than 50 doctors of the state government.

Rishikesh, January 20, 2025 – To ensure the health and medical preparedness for athletes participating in the National Games in Uttarakhand, a specialized team of doctors is being trained.
Over 50 doctors from the state government are undergoing training at AIIMS Rishikesh, conducted by experts from the Trauma and Emergency Medicine Departments. The program is designed to meet international standards, aligning with those adopted at global events like the Olympics and Asian Games.
Key Objectives of the Training Program
- Advanced Trauma Care: Equip doctors with skills for managing sports injuries, on-field emergencies, and exercise-induced ailments.
- On-Field Emergency Response: Train for rapid medical intervention during sports events.
- Technology Integration: Introduce drone-based medical services for faster response times.
Remarks by AIIMS Leadership
AIIMS Rishikesh Executive Director, Prof. (Dr.) Meenu Singh, emphasized the significance of the program, stating:
“This initiative showcases our commitment to excellence in healthcare and preparedness. Uttarakhand aims to set a national benchmark for medical support in sports events.”
Prof. Singh also mentioned that beds in the trauma emergency department would be reserved for athletes during the games.
Heli Ambulance Services and Medical Manual Launch
AIIMS Rishikesh will deploy heli ambulance services during the National Games to provide rapid emergency care within a 100 km radius. This service will cater to athletes, officials, and spectators alike.
Additionally, a National Games Medical Manual was unveiled during the training. The manual serves as a comprehensive guide for doctors and medical professionals on duty during the games.
Program Leadership and Participants
The training program is led by Course Director and Head of Trauma Surgery, Prof. Mohammad Qamar Azam, with Dr. Madhur Uniyal as the nodal in-charge. Participants include:
- Dr. Sunita Tamta (Director General, Medical and Family Welfare Department)
- Dr. C.P. Tripathi (Director, Health Department)
- Dr. Harish Pokhriya (Assistant Director, National Games Medical Health)
- AIIMS Emergency Department leaders like Dr. Nidhi Kaile, Dr. Pradeep Agarwal, and Dr. Prem Kumar.
