Omkareshwar Floating Solar Park: India’s largest floating solar project

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Prahlad Joshi visited Omkareshwar Floating Solar Park located in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh.

India has taken a significant step forward in its renewable energy journey with the Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project in Khandwa district, Madhya Pradesh. Recognized as India’s largest floating solar park, the project boasts a capacity of 600 MW.

Union Minister Prahlad Joshi shared on X (formerly Twitter):
“Visited the Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa district. It is one of Asia’s largest floating solar projects with a capacity of 600 MW. A heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Yadav for their unwavering support in advancing India’s renewable energy future. This project reflects the scale and ambition of our nation’s clean energy goals.”

Current Status and Financial Details

The solar park currently has an installed capacity of 278 MW, with a total estimated development cost of ₹330 crore. The project has been supported by ₹49.85 crore in central financial assistance.

Madhya Pradesh’s Role in Energy Security

Union Minister Joshi emphasized Madhya Pradesh’s critical contribution to India’s energy security. The state has seen a remarkable 14-fold increase in renewable energy capacity over the past 12 years, rising from 500 MW in 2012 to its current capacity.

Stakeholder Contributions and Future Potential

Minister Joshi congratulated stakeholders, including the Madhya Pradesh government and solar power park developers Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited, NHDC Limited, AMP Energy Green Private Limited, and SJVN Limited, for successfully commissioning the 278 MW solar park.

He stated,
“As the project progresses toward full capacity, the 600 MW park will generate over 4600 million units of clean energy over the next 25 years. This is a remarkable milestone in our journey towards a sustainable and renewable energy future.”
