Jamrani and Song Dam Projects: Accelerating Development in Uttarakhand

Dehradun, June 27, 2025: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, in a high-level meeting held at his residence on Friday, directed officials to expedite the works under the Jamrani Dam Multipurpose Project and the Song Dam Drinking Water Project. He emphasized that the execution of these projects should proceed in a phased and systematic manner.


Jamrani Dam Project: Aiming for Early Completion

With an estimated cost of ₹3808 crore, the Jamrani Dam project was originally targeted for completion by June 2029, but the Chief Minister has now directed that it be completed by December 2028. Key components of this ambitious project include:

  • Construction of a 150.6-meter-high dam

  • Reconstruction of a 42.92 km long canal

  • Construction of a new 21.25 km long canal

This project aims to ensure the supply of 117 MLD (Million Litres per Day) of drinking water to the future population of approximately 10.50 lakh in Haldwani and surrounding areas. Additionally, a 9 km long reservoir created by the dam will be developed as a new tourist destination, and the project will provide an additional irrigation potential of around 57,000 hectares.

Song Dam Project: Drinking Water for Dehradun

The Chief Minister also directed that the Song Dam Project, with an estimated cost of ₹2492 crore, should be completed ahead of the original deadline of March 2030. Major works under this project include:

  • Construction of a 130.60-meter-high dam

  • Development of a 14.70 km long water conveyance system with a 1.5-meter diameter

  • Construction of an 85 km long water distribution system

  • Installation of a 150 MLD water treatment plant

This project will provide gravity-based drinking water supply of 150 MLD for the estimated future population of 10.65 lakh in Dehradun and suburban areas till the year 2053. The resulting 3.5 km long lake will also be developed as a tourist attraction.
