Dehradun, April 08, 2025
The first quarterly meeting of the Medical Management Committee was held on Monday, April 8, 2025, at Rishiparna Auditorium in the Collectorate premises under the chairmanship of District Magistrate (DM) Savin Bansal. The meeting focused on enhancing medical facilities at the District Government Hospital (Coronation), Dehradun, with several crucial decisions being taken. The income-expenditure report for the previous fiscal year was presented, and a budget of ₹9.07 crore was approved for the financial year 2025–26.
‘Blood Garuda’ Vehicle to Help Attendants
Starting next month, an electric vehicle named ‘Blood Garuda’ will be deployed at the district hospital to assist attendants in collecting blood and medicines from other hospitals. DM instructed the purchase of the vehicle under the Atal Ayushman Scheme and arrangement of drivers through PRD (Provincial Guard). This service will be provided at minimal cost.
Nutritious Meals from SHG-Run Kitchen
The hospital will no longer serve contractor-based food. Instead, nutritious meals will be provided through the Hilans Canteen, operated by a Women Self Help Group (SHG). The Chief Development Officer (CDO) has been assigned the responsibility. The DM directed that SOPs for the kitchen be prepared within a month and operations begin shortly. This will ensure hygienic food for patients and boost women’s livelihoods.
Expansion of SNCU for Newborn Care
The DM instructed the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU), recently started with 6 beds, to be expanded to 12 beds, ensuring better care for newborns.
Strict Action Over High Referral Rates
Expressing displeasure over the high number of referrals in maternity cases, the DM ordered an inquiry into the functioning of gynecologists in Mussoorie and anesthetists at Coronation Hospital. He emphasized strict corrective measures to reduce unnecessary referrals.
Accelerated Construction of Blood Bank and Hilans Canteen
Construction of the blood bank and Hilans canteen is progressing swiftly. The DM instructed that work be expedited to ensure early inauguration.
Addressing Staff Shortages via Outsourcing
To address the shortage of pharmacists and physicians, the DM approved the outsourcing of two pharmacists and the deployment of a physician from Mahatma Gandhi Eye Hospital.
New STP for Old Hospital Building
Funds for a new Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) for the old hospital building have been approved by NHM. The agency constructing the blood bank has been designated as the executing agency to start work immediately.
Budget and Financial Overview
According to the Chief Medical Superintendent, the hospital generated an income of ₹14.07 crore and incurred an expenditure of ₹13.82 crore from April 2024 to March 2025. The approved budget of ₹9.07 crore for FY 2025–26 includes ₹94.99 lakh for equipment, maintenance, and outsourced staff salaries.
DM’s Directives: Better Facilities for Patients
The DM emphasized providing better healthcare services and reducing inconvenience to attendants. Committee members were encouraged to conduct regular inspections and offer feedback. The meeting also reviewed the progress of under-construction facilities such as the breastfeeding corner, burn ward, and pediatric ward.
