Two thousand people did reverse migration in Uttarakhand, earning well through self-employment: Commission

The Chief Minister said, a suitable platform should be created to share the experiences of people who have done reverse migration

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a review meeting of the Migration Prevention Commission at the Secretariat on Friday. During the meeting, the Chief Minister stated that a suitable platform will be provided for people who have returned to Uttarakhand through reverse migration to share their experiences.

The purpose of this platform is to inspire others to take steps toward self-employment by learning from these success stories. The suggestions of such individuals will be incorporated into various government schemes to make them more effective.

In the meeting, Vice-Chairman of the Migration Prevention Commission Dr. S.S. Negi shared detailed information about the Commission’s work. He informed that so far, around 2,000 people have returned to the state through reverse migration and engaged in agriculture, animal husbandry, tourism, homestays, horticulture, and other sectors, adopting self-employment and earning good profits.

What the Chief Minister Said in the Meeting

  • The active participation of women in the state will place Uttarakhand among the top states in the country in the coming times. This participation will honor the passion, courage, and skills of women power (Nari Shakti).

  • Secretary of Rural Development, Radhika Jha, was directed to work on developing a platform to share the success stories of those who have returned through reverse migration and to include them in policy-making.

  • The CM emphasized skill development for sustainable livelihoods in rural areas. He said there is a need to identify employment opportunities in local areas and inspire locals toward self-employment.

  • Women associated with self-help groups should be provided with professional skills so that their products can be better branded and marketed, enabling them to receive fair prices.

  • He also issued instructions to simplify the schemes and emphasized that the Commission should be made more effective through active participation of departments such as planning, education, tourism, and skill development.

Other members also provided important suggestions during the meeting.

Present on the occasion were Vice-Chairman of the Infrastructure Monitoring Council Vishwas Dabar, members Ramprakash Panyuli, Suresh Suyal, Dinesh Rawat, Additional Commissioner of Rural Development Rajendra Singh Rawat, and other officials.
