The School Education Department of Uttarakhand has decided to take concrete steps to rectify discrepancies in the categorization of schools. Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat has directed officials to thoroughly investigate categorization accuracy, dismiss teachers who have been absent for extended periods, and ensure timely distribution of free textbooks.

Divisional Level Review Meeting: Key Decisions

On Thursday, Dr. Rawat chaired a review meeting of the Garhwal division at the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) auditorium. Departmental, district, and block-level officials participated. Key points discussed and directives issued included:

Addressing Categorization Discrepancies

Dr. Rawat expressed displeasure over complaints regarding the incorrect categorization of schools. He instructed the Director General of School Education to verify and rectify categorization based on established standards.

Strict Action Against Absent Teachers

Orders were issued to prepare district- and block-wise lists of teachers and staff absent for long periods and proceed with their dismissal. Priority was also placed on handling voluntary and compulsory retirement cases, including issuing compulsory retirement to underperforming teachers.

Timely Distribution of Free Textbooks

Instructions were given to ensure the mandatory delivery and distribution of textbooks for all subjects from Class 1 to 12 on time. Officials were warned of strict action in case of delays.

School Facilities and Construction Works

The review covered cluster schools, PM-SHRI schools, and D and C category schools. Officials were directed to ensure basic amenities and timely completion of construction works.

Educational Quality and Student Incentives

  • Action plans must be prepared to ensure that at least one student from each block is included in the merit list of board exams.

  • Proposals for organizing teacher seminars were instructed.

  • Extensive promotion of the Chief Minister’s Meritorious Student Scholarship scheme was emphasized.

The meeting was attended by Secretary of School Education Ravinath Raman, Director General Jharna Kamthan, Director Mukul Sati, Director of Sanskrit Education Dr. Anand Bhardwaj, Additional Director Garhwal Kanchan Devradi, Additional Director of SCERT Padmendra Saklani, APD Samagra Shiksha Kuldeep Gairola, and Chief Education Officers, Block Education Officers, and other departmental officials from the Garhwal division.
