This method saves you from standing in queue to make AIIMS OPD card

'Abha' is getting rid of the queue for OPD registration, digitization made it easier to get the form made in AIIMS

Rishikesh, January 13, 2025

Under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), the ABHA QR Code-based Scan and Share facility is proving highly beneficial for patients.

At AIIMS Rishikesh, more than 3.02 lakh patients have availed of this facility in the last two years. This system has eliminated the need for patients to wait in long queues for hours to get their OPD registration.

The QR Code-based counter for Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) was launched on November 26, 2022, at AIIMS Rishikesh, making it the first government healthcare institution in Uttarakhand to implement this digital registration system.

Under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, not only are patients’ ABHA IDs being created, but healthcare professionals, including doctors and nursing staff, are also being integrated into the system. According to departmental data, 2,279 healthcare professionals have been registered under this scheme so far. The institute has digitally linked the health records of 3.65 lakh patients. Executive Director Professor Dr. Meenu Singh praised the ABDM (ABHA) team at the institute for this achievement.

Benefits of ABHA

Dr. Bharat Bhushan Bhardwaj, Nodal Officer for the ABHA scheme and Deputy Medical Superintendent of the hospital, explained the advantages of ABHA:

  1. Quick OPD Registration: Through the ABHA app, individuals can scan the QR code at any hospital to generate their registration slip.
  2. Access to Health Records: Patients can view all their health records on their mobile phones via the ABHA app.
  3. No Need for Physical Documents: Once the ABDM scheme is fully implemented, patients will no longer need to carry physical health documents. Doctors can access their health records through the ABHA app.
  4. Future Upgrades: The next phase of the ABDM scheme will include the ability to make bill payments via QR codes.

Implementation Process

Patients arriving for treatment need to download the ABHA app by scanning the QR codes displayed at Entry Gate No. 3 and the OPD area of AIIMS.

Scheme coordinator Kamal Juyal explained that after downloading the app, patients can scan the QR code displayed at the registration counter area using their mobile cameras. This generates an OPD registration number, also known as a token number, on their mobile app.

By showing the token number, patients can collect their registration slip from the OPD counter staff. A dedicated team of volunteers at the institute assists in this process.
