UCC: Marriage registration mandatory for all married state employees

Registration of marriages solemnized after 26.03.2010 made mandatory under Uttarakhand Uniform Civil Code

Chief Secretary Radha Raturi has written a letter to all District Magistrates, instructing them to ensure the marriage registration of married employees working under the state government under the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

In her letter, the Chief Secretary stated that under the Uttarakhand Uniform Civil Code (UCC), the registration of marriages conducted after 26.03.2010 has been made mandatory. Accordingly, the District Nodal Officer designated for the Uniform Civil Code must ensure the timely completion of marriage registration for all married employees working in their district.

Each district must regularly submit a report on this matter to the Secretary, Home Department, Uttarakhand Government.

The Chief Secretary has also directed that each department should designate a nodal officer at the level of Additional Chief Secretary/Principal Secretary/Secretary, who will ensure the marriage registration of married employees in their respective departments.

Similarly, all department heads must instruct their subordinate married employees to mandatorily register their marriage on the UCC portal. District Magistrates and department heads must ensure that this process is completed within the stipulated time frame and that a weekly report is sent to the Secretary, Home Department, Uttarakhand Government.

The Chief Secretary further stated that to ensure smooth registration on the UCC portal, the Director, ITDA Uttarakhand has been directed to provide necessary technical assistance to all districts and departments. If any district or department requires technical support, they should immediately coordinate with the Director, ITDA.
