Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Harish Rawat has issued a statement on social media regarding his former advisor Rajeev Jain during his tenure as Chief Minister.
Rawat stated, “Rajeev Jain is a businessman progressing in real estate and ancestral business. His home, business establishments, and those of his associates were raided. Rajeev Jain comes from a traditional Congress family and was active in the party even before I entered politics in the Dehradun region. He was already an established businessman. During my tenure as Chief Minister, considering his knowledge about small businesses and trade enterprises, I appointed him as my advisor.”
Rawat further clarified, “The raid was portrayed and publicized in such a way that it seemed as if my political associate and advisor’s home and establishments were raided, and that these establishments were built under my influence. The businesses and properties associated with Rajeev Jain were not acquired during his time as my advisor. It seems they were acquired during the BJP’s rule.”
He added, “I firmly assert that during my tenure as Chief Minister, Rajeev Jain did not make any major business transactions. I also want to point out that after 2017, many individuals who hesitate to even stand in my shadow include Rajeev Jain. However, he did not join the group of people who started speaking against me under the fear of the current government. Perhaps that is why he has become an eyesore for those in power.”
The former Chief Minister reiterated, “I would like to reiterate that Rajeev Jain did not derive any business-related benefits during my tenure. During that period, he did not engage in any significant business activity. Doing business is not a crime; his family has been engaged in business for generations, and future generations will continue to do so. Their accounts will also be scrutinized. I have no comment on the process of investigation.”
