Save Environment Movement Dehradun’s walk and talk program from Sagar Lake to Khalanga

Expressed solidarity against the cutting of trees in Hyderabad Central University and Dehradun

Despite the rainy weather, a large number of citizens participated in the ‘Walk and Talk’ event organized by the Save Environment Movement Dehradun on Saturday, April 12. The walk started from Sagar Tal and concluded at Khalanga, expressing solidarity against tree cutting in Dehradun and Hyderabad Central University.

🌱 Highlights:

  • Environmental advocate Trilochan Bhatt shared that the walk’s keynote speaker, Ajay Sharma, provided in-depth insights into the Khalanga forest ecosystem, including its trees, plants, birds, animals, termite mounds, and more.

  • Colonel (Retd.) Thapa, representing the Balbhadra Khalanga Committee, spoke about the historic Khalanga battle, offering historical context to the location.

  • The program began with folk songs by Satish Dhaulakhandi, setting a vibrant and reflective tone for the event.

  • The event was skillfully anchored by Jyotsna Rawat.

🌍 Awareness Through Action:

The movement now aims to expand its outreach by integrating environmental education and raising public awareness through interactive forest walks and educational activities in various forest regions of Dehradun.

The Khalanga Walk marks the first such event of the year, signaling a new phase of grassroots environmental action.

Meanwhile, similar efforts are underway to save trees at Seven Turns (Saat Mod) on Rishikesh Road, further reinforcing the community’s commitment to green spaces.
