In Dehradun district’s Sahaspur block, three students were injured when plaster from the ceiling of the government school building in Eidgah Basti collapsed. However, the Block Education Officer (BEO) did not consider it necessary to visit the school even four days after the incident. District Magistrate (DM) Savin Bansal took cognizance of the incident and, based on the investigation report, ordered a one-day salary deduction and an adverse entry in the service record of the BEO, citing negligence.
Key Findings from the Investigation Report
The investigation revealed that the higher authorities were not informed about the incident for four days. Even after four days, no on-site inspection of the school was conducted. Despite multiple reports from the school principal about the dilapidated condition of the building and injuries to students, no inspection or corrective measures were taken.
Taking note of the investigation report, the DM ordered the deduction of one day’s salary and issued a special adverse entry against the BEO of Sahaspur.
Additional Details About the BEO’s Negligence
- Failure to fulfill official duties.
- Not relocating students to a safer building despite prior notifications from the principal regarding the deteriorating condition of the school building.
- Failing to report the incident to higher authorities.
- Providing false leave information to the Chief Education Officer (CEO).
