Land Fraud Cases in Garhwal 2026: 74 New Cases in Dehradun and 15 in Haridwar
Dehradun, May 02, 2026: A high-level meeting of the Land Fraud Coordination Committee was held on Saturday at the Camp Office located at Survey Chowk, chaired by Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey. The meeting reviewed reports received following previous directives. During the session, the committee heard a total of 125 cases, including 20 pending matters and 105 new complaints.
The committee successfully disposed of 45 cases and ordered the registration of FIRs (police cases) in 24 extremely serious matters. Additionally, the Commissioner issued orders to file FIRs in 11 other cases involving land fraud and illegal encroachment.

The Garhwal Commissioner stated that land fraud cases are being reviewed every 15 days. He noted that investigations have revealed shocking practices, such as:
Selling land that doesn’t exist.
Manipulating Khasra (land record) numbers to provide different plots of land.
Selling two bighas of land by claiming it is four bighas.

Action and Outcomes
The Commissioner directed the police to take strict action. Out of the 45 resolved cases:
Mutual Settlements: In some instances, both parties reached an agreement.
Administrative Intervention: Issues regarding financial transactions were resolved through administration, and funds were returned to victims.
Civil Matters: Some cases were found to be pending in civil courts regarding the cancellation of sale deeds; these were determined not to involve criminal fraud and must be settled legally through the courts.
Strict Directives:
Zero Tolerance: The Commissioner expressed displeasure over delays in cases involving large land areas and ordered solid progress within 15 days.
Immediate Action: Immediate action must be taken where illegal construction has been proven.
Transparency: If a complaint is found not to be related to land fraud, the complainant must be informed.
Prevention: Preventive steps should be taken at the initial stages of a dispute to avoid future complexities.
