Dehradun, June 2026: Women-led Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across Uttarakhand are emerging as a powerful force in rural development, helping thousands of women achieve financial independence while strengthening local economies. Supported by various government schemes and livelihood missions, these groups are expanding their activities in agriculture, handicrafts, food processing, dairy farming, and small-scale entrepreneurship.

Officials report that SHGs are playing a crucial role in generating employment opportunities in villages, particularly for women who previously had limited access to income-generating activities. Through collective savings, skill development programs, and access to credit facilities, members are launching small businesses and contributing to household incomes.

In several districts, women entrepreneurs are producing local products such as traditional food items, organic produce, handwoven textiles, herbal products, and handicrafts. These products are increasingly reaching wider markets through exhibitions, digital platforms, and government-supported marketing initiatives.

Development experts say that the growth of SHGs is helping reduce migration from rural areas by creating livelihood opportunities closer to home. The groups are also promoting financial literacy, community participation, and social empowerment among women.

The Uttarakhand government has continued to encourage rural entrepreneurship through training programs, market linkages, and financial assistance schemes. Officials believe that strengthening women-led enterprises can play a key role in sustainable economic development across the state’s mountainous regions.

As more women participate in entrepreneurial activities and community-led development projects, SHGs are becoming an important pillar of Uttarakhand’s rural transformation. Experts view the movement as a positive example of grassroots economic growth and social empowerment
