In light of growing discontent regarding the state government’s decision to operate the Government Medical College in Haridwar under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, Director of Medical Education, Dr. Ashutosh Sayana, has issued a clarification. He assured that this move will not lead to an increase in tuition fees for students studying at the college. Moreover, all facilities currently provided at government medical colleges will remain available to the students of this institution.
Dr. Sayana stated that the Government Medical College in Haridwar received approval for 100 MBBS seats this academic session, and formal classes have commenced. To ensure better management of the college and enhanced healthcare facilities for patients, the government has decided to operate the college under the PPP model.
He emphasized that under the terms of the PPP arrangement, there will be no increase in tuition fees for students. Furthermore, all academic certificates and degrees awarded will bear the name of Government Medical College, Haridwar.
Dr. Sayana also highlighted that patients admitted to the college hospital will continue to receive treatment at Ayushman Card or CGHS rates, based on their eligibility. The primary objective of transitioning to the PPP model, he explained, is to modernize the hospital and medical college facilities, ensuring maximum benefits for both students and patients.
