Rishikesh, December 19, 2024

The emergency air ambulance service operated by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh, has proven to be a lifesaver for critically injured individuals in accidents and severely ill patients from remote areas.

Dr. Madhur Uniyal, the nodal officer for the heli-ambulance service at AIIMS, stated that the heli-ambulance has been highly beneficial in providing immediate medical assistance to trauma patients, as well as those suffering from critical conditions such as heart disease, respiratory ailments, stroke, and pregnancy-related emergencies.

Last Wednesday, a pregnant woman in critical condition was airlifted from Uttarkashi to AIIMS via the heli-ambulance. Due to a lack of necessary resources for safe delivery at the local hospital, she was referred to the higher center at AIIMS, Rishikesh. Under the observation of Dr. Kavita Khoiwal and Senior Nursing Officer Akhilesh Uniyal, the patient was brought to AIIMS, where the obstetrics department successfully performed a high-risk surgery, resulting in a safe delivery. Both the mother and the newborn are healthy.
